Philipp Weishapt and Contagio Z son Coby 8 win another CSI5* GP!

What a top performance again last weekend from the German rider Philipp Weishaupt with his 12-year-old gelding Coby 8, a son of our grey stallion Contagio Z. At the Tops International Arena in Valkenswaard, the successful duo won for the third time in just six months a CSI5* GP!

A lot of top combinations went to the Tops International Arena in Valkenswaard last weekend, which ensured that the level was very high. Of the forty-five combinations that appeared at the start on Sunday during the CSI5* GP, ten managed to clear the basic round and thus obtain a ticket for the jump-off. One of them was Philipp Weishaupt and his gelding Coby 8, with whom he also won the CSI5* Grand Prix of Riyadt and Wellington in recent months. Weishaupt and Coby 8 took a lot of risk in the jump-off and with a convincing finish time of 38.61 seconds they eventually took the with more than 2.5 seconds over the competition.

Philipp Weishaupt: "A horse like Coby that it’s fast and a real proper Grand Prix horse makes life much easier and I also just caught the perfect rhythm during the whole class and the whole jump off so I’m extremely delighted today. Coby is good in both indoor, outdoor, small sand arena, big grass arena, he’s won three 5* Grand Prix in the last 6 months which I don’t think there are too many horses that have done this so I’m so happy to have him he’s just such a great horse.”

Who also managed to secure a podium place in this CSI5* GP was the American lady rider Lillie Keenen with the 13-year-old gelding Queensland E, a son of Quickfire de Ferann and Socrate de Chivre who was born at the home of breeder Emmanuel Wera as Quinto de la Hamente Z. Queensland Z is also a half-brother of the stallion Classic Jump de la Hamente Z (Cicero Z), who became econd in the Championship for 3-year-olds at our Z-festival earlier in the day. Keenan and Queensland E also managed to keep it clear in the jump-off and a finish time of 42.67 seconds gave them a third place in the ranking.

For the Turkish rider Omer Karaevli and the 12-year-old grey gelding Cheston de la Pomme d'Or Z (Chippendale Z x Contendro II – B: Patrick Huyse) there was this time an eighth place after their victory in the CSI4* Grand Prix the week before.

Before the start of the CSI5* GP, a second Grand Prix was scheduled on Sunday with the CSI2* GP. And also in this class there was blue/yellow success, because fifth place went to Pieter Devos with the 9-year-old mare Irona van de Viking Z (Iron Man van de Padenborre x Catango Z – B: Viking Stables). In a jump-off for which nineteen combinations were able to qualify, Devos and Irona of the Viking Z again made a clear round and with a time of 42.35 seconds they were just under two seconds behind winner Michael Parker (Elektra des Premices).
