Ascalvara de Bo Z helps Mathieu Guery to a Grand Prix victory!

The young Belgian rider Mathieu Guery proved once again yesterday that he has clearly inherited the fast genes of his father Jérôme! Just like his parents, Mathieu appeared at the start last weekend on the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva and yesterday he won there the 1.40m Grand Prix for the Juniors. For this victory he could count on the 8-year-old chestnut mare Ascalvaro de Bo Z, a daughter of our grey stallion Asca Z and Calvaro Z, who was bred by Philippe Bormans. In a jump-off for which eight combinations managed to qualify, the young Guery finished in 31.43 seconds and thereby beated the competition.

Mathieu Guery: “I got this horse from Stephex Stables three months ago and she is a super mare. Here it was quite difficult and I saw that my friend Micky (Miquel Canals Ripoll) was already very fast. I tried to keep a good rhythm and in the end it was only 15 hundredths of a second, so I was a bit lucky. But I'm super happy, it was a nice round!"

But Ascalvara de Bo Z was not the only Zangersheide horse who was placed in this Grand Prix yesterday. In seventh place we saw the Spanish rider Carlos Borho Giron with the 10-year-old mare Esprit de l'Esprit Z (Elvis Ter Putte x Quantum – B: Nico Esprit), the former horse of Bart Jay Junior Vandecasteele. Giron and Esprit de l'Esprit Z, who already finished second the day before in the 1.40m class for the Juniors, also managed to set a nice finish time in 33.28 seconds, but they also saw a pole roll out of the cups.

In addition to the Grand Prix for the Juniors, yesterday on the final day it was also looking forward to the CSI2* Grand Prix, in which there was another great performance for the Belgian rider Sacha Beghuin with the 10-year-old stallion Elcup Van Beek II Z (Elvis Ter Putte x Armitage – B: 't Eirbissemhof). After their second place in the CSI2* Grand Prix two weeks ago, they finished ninth this time after they ran into four penalty points in a 14-strong jump-off. During the 1.45m high Longines Ranking class on Saturday, Beghuin also managed to secure an eighth place with the also 10-year-old gelding Zidup Van Beek Z (Zirocco Blue VDL x Captain Fire – B: ’t Eirbissemhof).

On the opening day on Thursday, the show already started with a blue/yellow victory and the British lady rider Emma Stoker ensured that with the 8-year-old mare Skylandria Z (Super Trooper de Ness x Indoctro – B: Yvonne Copal), who she also rode as 5- and a 6-year-old. In the 1.40m high opening class they claimed the victory with a clear round in 54.70 seconds. The Spanish lady rider Laura Roquet Puignero placed fifth in this class with the 8-year-old mare Denis Z (Dakar VDL x Classido – B: Juan Guillermo Llull).

Finally, the Portuguese rider Mario Prieto managed to secure a second place with the 11-year-old gelding Othello Z (Ogano Sitte x Caletto I – B: F. Verhagen) during the 1.45m high qualifier for the Grand Prix and also for the French lady rider Cassiopeia Darnet there was a second place in the 1.40m class for the Juniors with the 10-year-old stallion Don'T Touch des 4 Vents Z (Diamant de Semilly x Gentleman – B: Sprl ED4V).
